The original production of Leo & Lili’s Luau was performed as a benefit for The HICCUP Circus, a children’s Circus workshop for the kids of Puna on the Big Island of Hawaii on December 28 and 29th, 2010. The writer says..
The play, whose star is the unborn child of Leo and Lili, represents for me, the merging of the local and the haole. I wanted to create a play that represents the lower Puna community and takes a look at how cultures co-exist and create unity through love and chaos. So to all the children, on the Big Island of Hawaii, and to all those children who will come to us and be our mentors in this world, I dedicate “Leo & Lili’s Luau” to your wisdom and courage as you guide our cultures into harmony.
KANIALA MASOE
Featured in Leo & Lili’s Luau to be performed on June 5th as a fundraiser for the YWCA, is the Big Island’s Kaniala Masoe won the Island Idol, a voice competition featuring all Hawaiʻi contestants in May 2018. YWCA of Hilo Benefit Event
You don’t want to miss a Hawaiian luau with a mix of mainland and local families, join us for Leo n Lili’s madcap luau in June. Written by Larry Pellegrini, and performed by a cast of local Hawaiian actors, entertainers and musicians, “guests” on Zoom will celebrate the new baby of their favorite local/ mainland couple, Leo n Lili! May be PG 13 for some language, just like a real wedding. See twhat one of our other participants said of our last show, Tony n Tina’s wedding.
I figured I’d go all the way and purchase the VIP ticket which offered me an invitation to Tina’s shower and actual “presence” at the wedding. Oh my goodness! I’m so glad I did! I felt like I was actually in the room playing bridal shower games with Tina and her family and bridal party, along with a few other local guests like me. I really had no idea of what to expect of a Zoom wedding, but the cast pulled it off . . . And again, made me feel like I was really one of their guests. It was as I might of expected of an madcap Italian wedding, only with everyone “distanced”. Tony and Tina’s wedding was hilarious, and I am so glad I “attended” . . . And helped the YWCA Hawai’i Island in the process. Now, I can’t wait to see the malahini – kama’aina “Leo and Lili’s Wedding” in June!
