Walk a Mile in Her Shoes

October 28, 2023

Walk a Mile Fundraiser – Saturday, Oct 28, 2023

For more than 40 years, the YWCA of Hawai`i Island has provided sexual assault support services for victims and survivors – women, men, girls, and boys ranging from age ninety to less than a year old. Our free, island-wide services include a 24-Hour Sexual Assault Crisis Hotline (808) 935-0677, a Medical Forensic Exam Program and counseling support for the survivor and family members. Last year alone, we responded to more than 2,150 crisis and support calls from or on behalf of victims of sexual violence.

Your support will make it possible to continue to offer these services and programs to the victims, survivors, and family members. Ours is the only resource available to them on Hawai‘i Island.

Sure – please encourage folks to donate to your page however you see fit!  You are welcome to build your fundraising campaign around your personal goal for fundraising, miles walked or even if you plan on walking the whole month.  The footwear is up to you – walking to support survivors is the most important thing.

Teams are open to any size and collection of individuals.  Teams increase your ability to fundraise; teams can be a business, a family, group of friends, etc.  One person has to be the “captain” and create/claim the team page.  All individuals on a team must have their own fundraising page, and their individual total rolls up to the team page and total.  Teams will be competing for team category prizes; most funds raised, the bigger your team the better your chance to win!

Yes! Supporters can mail donations to YWCA at 145 Ululani Street, Hilo, HI 96720.  We will still credit this donation to your fundraising page to show your total amount raised.  Make sure they note Walk a Mile & your name/team on the memo line of the check.  Donations must be received at our office by October28th to count toward your total for prizes on the 29th.

Join us and register anyway, form a group and do your walk virtually.  If you want footwear for pictures, give us a call.  Please contact us a week or more before so we can arrange for pictures. Tell friends and family with social media so they can support you from wherever they are.

That’s totally fine.  We have people walk in all types of footwear.  Decorated slippers, tabbies, crocs, sneakers or just shoes.  The important thing is walking to raise awareness and support survivors of sex assault.  Use the link above to register.  If you decorate your shoes you’ll be eligible for the decorated shoe contests as well.
