Advocates are available to provide support, resources and referrals, or can just be someone to talk to about what’s going on and what to do next.
We know how hard it is to seek help when you are in an abusive relationship or a victim of sexual assault, and we want to make accessing that help as easy as possible. Making a phone call to a support line or leaving the house is not always possible when you are living with an abusive partner. And for many, an online chat might feel more comfortable than a phone call or meeting with an advocate in person.
Safety Considerations
Our web chat is end-to-end encrypted. Therefore, only you and the Advocate you’re chatting with can read the contents of the messages being sent. The contents of the messages do not get saved anywhere on your device. Once you close the chat window, the history of messages will be gone.
However, there are still important safety risks to be aware of:
- There is no technology anywhere that can prevent information from being read on a device that has a virus, malware, or spyware installed on it. If a spyware or virus program is able to record keystrokes or take screenshots every X number of seconds, there’s nothing that can be done to make the device safe.
- If you believe your device may have been compromised, it is safer to use another device to connect with us or to call our 24/7 hotline from an unmonitored phone, (808) 935-0677.
